Why is Hamilton ISD closing due to Coronavirus concerns?                                     

Governor Greg Abbott, on April 17, ordered that all Texas schools remain closed through the end of the 2019-20 school year. As such, Hamilton ISD facilities will remain closed through May and all District events and activities will be canceled during that time. Hamilton ISD Distance Learning will continue through the official end of the District's school year – May 22, 2020. 

Will at-home learning continue during this time?

Yes. At-Home Learning will continue through the end of the school year. Teachers have communicated with parents and students about the continuation of At-Home Learning. Parents who have questions can contact Covid19@hamiltonisd.org

 

Will meals be available for students who need them?

Meals will be available to all citizens 4-18 years old, free of charge. The meals are grab and go.

**Breakfast will be available M-F, 7:30-8am in the bus lane at AWE.

**Lunch will be available M-F at these locations and times-
11:30-noon  Bus Lane at AWE
11:30  Littleville Baptist Church parking lot, 108 E Hoard St.
Noon - The apartments located at 920 S. Dempster
12:30- Kiwanis Park (Softball field across from Storms)

 Lunches will be delivered at the remote sites in our district’s clearly marked mini bus.

 

Will athletic and fine arts competitions still be held?

No. The UIL has stated that no competitions, practices, rehearsals, or workouts will take place during the COVID-19 closure, and with Governor Abbott's announcement that schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year, all remaining UIL activities are also canceled. The UIL's previously communicated information allowing remote instruction remains in place.

 

Will the Athletic Department Still Offer Summer Camps & Summer Workouts?

Hamilton ISD is still waiting on the UIL to make a final decision about summer sports activities/workouts.  At this time, all summer youth sports camps will be rescheduled for July. The High School and Junior High Strength and Conditioning program is still scheduled to begin in June pending UIL guidelines.

 

 

Will Hamilton ISD students be required to take final exams this year?

Students will not be taking final exams. Class grades will be determined by student work completed during the six weeks. 

 

My Child Received an “I” on his/her Report Card. What Does this Mean?

Students receiving an I (Incomplete) have assignments that were not turned in and/or have not communicated with their teachers. Students will be required to complete these assignments.  They will have until the end of summer school to finish and submit their work. Students receiving an Incomplete will be allowed to retain their Chromebook until the end of summer school.  

 

What is happening with the band trip to Disney World?

The band trip for 2020 has been canceled. The trip will be rescheduled for 2021. Details on dates will be announced at a later date. 

 

When will I be able to pick up my child’s belongings & school pictures?

On Friday, May 1 from 11am-1pm, AWE/JH all locker items and other personal belongings will be available for pickup in the bus lane

HS students may pick up their personal belongings on Friday, May 1 from 11am-1pm at the doors by the commons.

 

When will students return their athletic gear, and band instruments, library books?

AWE/JH students can return school issued gear on Friday, May 1 from 11am-1pm in the bus lane.

HS students may return school issued gear on Friday, May 1 from 11am-1pm at the door by the commons. 

 

When will I turn in my child’s Chromebook?

Hamilton ISD Distance Learning will continue through the official end of the District's school year – May 22, 2020.  Hamilton ISD plans to make an announcement on May 18th on how Chromebooks will be returned.

 

Will there be summer school this year?

Yes. It is anticipated that summer school will be online or facilitated through the use of paper packets.

 

Will school closure impact 8th grade promotion?

The promotion ceremony for 8th grade has been canceled. There are no plans in place at this time to reschedule.

 

Will Hamilton HS Prom be made up?

Because Hamilton High School’s scheduled prom is during the District's COVID-19 closure, this event will not take place. 

 

Will Hamilton ISD’s closure impact HS graduation?

Hamilton HS graduation will take place on Saturday, May 23rd at 9am. Broadcast on Mixlr.com/HISD

 

8:30am            Arrive in cars and park in pre-marked spot.

    • Only immediate family members in vehicle. 
  • (Must Stay in Vehicle)
  • Only passenger vehicles allowed; no buses, trailers, or RVs. 
  • Only one vehicle per graduate, unless pre approved to have a second, due to split family.

 

9:00am            Exit Pecan Creek Park, proceed south on N. Railroad, west on E.   Gentry, south on N Bell, west on E Henry (cross 281) W Henry, south on N. College (cross 36) S. College

9:20am (approx) Processional will stop at the corner of S. College & W. Standifer and line up in front of Hamilton JH and Ann Whitney Elementary. One family at a time will proceed to the front of Hamilton High School where the graduate will receive their diploma and take a picture with school administration, and HHS as the back drop.

                         Citizens are invited to line the parade route, practicing social distancing. No “spectators” will be allowed at the diploma award site for the safety of our staff and students.

In case of bad weather, diplomas will be awarded in the bus lane adjacent to Ann Whitney.
