Mock Trial: Young Advocates Deliver Verdict: Principal Slone Guilty of Recess Deprivation in Ann Whitney Elementary Mock Trial

In a surprising turn of events at Ann Whitney Elementary, a group of third and fourth-grade students recently conducted a mock trial, putting their elementary principal, Mr. James Slone, on trial for the alleged crime of "not providing enough time for recess."

The trial unfolded with an air of both seriousness and hilarity, as the pint-sized lawyers and witnesses engaged in a spirited debate. Ultimately, the jury, comprised of their peers, rendered a verdict: Mr. James Slone was found "guilty" of not providing enough time for recess.

Mr. Slone was "sentenced" to probation for the rest of the year at Hamilton ISD.

Thank you to all of the teachers, especially Anita Paul and Janna Whitehead, for organizing the trial. And a big THANK YOU to Judge James Yates, Judge Randy Mills, Co-Counsel Lucas Robinson, Co-Counsel Cynthia Puff, Chief Deputy Mariah Whitehead, Maria Weaver, Justice of the Peace, James Lively, District Clerk Sandy Layhew, Administrative Assistant Debbie Rudolph, DPS State Trooper Nestor Reyes, Chief Deputy Isaac Partain, Deputy Ed Hood, and County Clerk, Rachel Lamb Geeslin, and Anna Renaud for participating and allowing us to use the District Courtroom for this amazing learning experience.
