School Bus Safety Week

This week is School Bus Safety Week and we want to remind our community of the top five school bus safety rules to remember when driving near a school bus.

1. Stop when the red lights flash and the stop arm is extended. Stop as required by law and never drive past a loading or unloading school bus while its stop signals are active.

2. Slow down when yellow lights flash. The bus is preparing to stop. Reduce your speed and be ready to stop.

3. Watch carefully for children. Children may suddenly enter the road near bus stops, schools, and parked buses. Stay alert and avoid distractions.

4. Never pass a school bus on the right. Children enter and exit the bus on this side. Never attempt to pass where students may be boarding or getting off.

5. Wait until it is safe and legal to proceed. Do not move until the red lights are off, the stop arm is retracted, and the bus begins moving. Follow applicable traffic laws and signs.
