With so much media and information coming at us through the television, phones, social media, and more, it's more important than ever for kids to understand the basics of media literacy. When kids can identify different types of news and media and the methods and meanings behind them, they're on their way to being critical thinkers and smart consumers.  Here is some more information on how to help your child spot fake news. As soon as you share the first photo of your kid, you're establishing their digital footprint. As kids get older and start creating their own content or engaging with others online, it's important for them to understand the tracks they're leaving behind and what those tracks might reveal. Parents can help guide kids toward creating the kind of footprint they can be proud of.  Here is some more information about having your child post responsibly. Digital Citizenship Week - Wednesday October 18, 2023 Cyberbullying is bullying that takes place over digital devices like cell phones, computers, and tablets. It can happen through SMS, Text, and apps, or online in social media, forums, or gaming where people can view, participate in, or share content. Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, harmful, false, or mean content about someone else. It can also include sending direct threats or making fun of someone online. Cyberbullying can have a significant impact on a child's emotional well-being. It can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness, sadness, anger, and even suicidal thoughts. Cyberbullying can also damage a child's reputation and make it difficult for them to make friends. There are a number of things that parents can do to help protect their children from cyberbullying. First, it is important to talk to your child about cyberbullying and what to do if they are being bullied. Explain to them that they should never respond to a cyberbully and that they should always tell a trusted adult if they are being bullied. Parents can also help to protect their children from cyberbullying by monitoring their online activity. This includes checking their social media accounts, their text messages, and their internet browsing history. Parents should also talk to their children about their online friends and make sure that they know who they are talking to. If your child is being cyberbullied, it is important to take action. First, save all of the evidence of the cyberbullying, such as text messages, screenshots, and social media posts. Then, report the cyberbullying to the website or app where it is happening. You may also want to contact your child's school or the police.
